Keyboard shortcuts
A complete reference. On Mac the modifier is ⌘; on Windows and Linux it’s Ctrl.

Closing panels
Section titled “Closing panels”Every slide-in panel — “Ask the book”, AI tasks, and the Help drawer — closes the same three ways: press Esc, click anywhere outside it, or click the same nav entry / trigger button again. Clicking a different Help “?” while the drawer is open switches it to that article rather than closing it. Dialogs are deliberately different: they stay put until you use their own buttons, so an accidental click can’t lose your edits.
Undo and redo are disabled when the focus is inside the rich manuscript editor — the editor has its own undo history (Ctrl/⌘ + Z inside the editor undoes typing).
Tab rows, choices and colours
Section titled “Tab rows, choices and colours”The same keys work on every page.
| Keys | Action |
|---|---|
| Tab | Reaches a row of tabs (Settings, …) once, on the open tab |
| ← / →, Home / End | Move between those tabs; Enter or Space opens the one you’re on |
| ← / → in a row of choices (Appearance’s sizes and styles, a chapter’s Edit / Outline / Read switch, …) | Move between the choices; Enter or Space picks one, and typing a choice’s first letter picks it |
| Enter on a colour swatch | Opens its colours; Tab moves through them, Enter picks one, Esc closes |
| ↓, Enter or Space on a ⋯ menu (AI Settings → a model’s actions) | Opens it on its first action (↑ on its last); ↑ / ↓, Home / End and typing an action’s first letter move; Enter picks; Esc closes |
